my southern life embellished by a living faith in God

Strength and Comfort – for the Child of God

Strength and Comfort – for the Child of God

Strength and Comfort for the Child of God

In my own life I have gone through my share of trials and sorrows. Because we live in a sinful world we will have trouble, Jesus said so himself.

  • John 16:33 The Living Bible

“Here on Earth you will have many trials and sorrows; but cheer up, for I have overcome the world.”

If you are suffering or someone close to you is going through trouble you can take some comfort in knowing that Jesus told his children ahead of time that we were to expect trials but he also gave us a way of dealing with them. In my own trials I have found comfort and strength in the Bible. The words of God are alive and full of power. If you believe in the power of God, believe also in the power of the word of God.

  • Ephesians 6:17 The Living Bible

“And you will need the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit – which is the word of God.”

Here, Paul is telling us that we need the word of God because the word is the sword of the Spirit. The word of God offers protection to God’s children. There is power in the Word of God. Below are several verses that I have used in the past and believe they will be strength and comfort for you in times of trial. Pray before you read them asking God to use his word to strengthen you. Ask for comfort and peace through his word. You must believe and have faith in order to receive. The verses below are all from The Living Bible.

  • Psalms 91:1

“We live within the shadow of the Almighty, sheltered by the God who is above all gods.”

  • Psalms 91:11-12

“For he orders his angels to protect you where ever you go. They will steady you with their hands to keep you from stumbling against the rocks in the trail.”

  • Psalms 139: 17-18

“How precious it is, Lord, to realize that you are thinking about me constantly! I can’t even count how may times a day your thoughts turn towards me. And when I waken in the morning, you are still thinking of me!”

Below is a short prayer that I have written down in my journal and I want to share it with you.

My Father in Heaven,
I believe Father in Heaven that you have given me your words in the Bible to protect me and comfort me. I will not be afraid because you are always with me. Even to the end of time your love will sustain me. And even after that your love lives forever.
Your love covers me and protects me from evil. Amen.
