I made a quick basic garden salad for supper consisting of romaine lettuce, red and yellow tomatoes and cucumbers. If you are not familiar with yellow tomatoes, they really add visual flare to a salad when combined with red tomatoes. Their taste is milder than their red counterparts and they have a less acidic taste – which some people prefer. Very simple salad, but I love the taste of fresh tomatoes and I think they make the whole salad. If you love southern summer vine ripe tomatoes I think you will agree that nothing else is needed for a great salad.

Now for the dressing. My family loves the salad dressing that I make and I am sharing the recipe below.

3 cups of mayonnaise                                                         1/8 teaspoon powdered garlic

½ cup catsup (Heinz)                                                           1/8 teaspoon dried basil leaves

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (I use Lea & Perrins)

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Dash of ground red pepper or a dash or two of Louisiana hot sauce

Parsley flakes

Combine all ingredients and stir.  Add parsley if desired.

I also use this sauce on boiled or fried shrimp, fried chicken, and French fries.

Enjoy.
